Tucked away in the heart of Newent, The Runcible Spoon takes its name from Edward Lear’s whimsical poem The Owl and the Pussycat – and much like the poem, there’s a touch of magic to be found here.

Step inside and you’ll be greeted by the comforting aroma of freshly baked cakes, hearty soups, handmade pies and vibrant salads – all lovingly created in-house by our team. Wherever possible, we champion local produce and the incredible makers right on our doorstep.

12 Broad Street

Manna House offers a boutique and cosy atmosphere looking over Broad Street. “The local cakes are delicious!” is a common review quote.  The cafe has an extensive brunch menu, lovely gifts and also runs art and craft classes for all ages which can be booked online.

The café is open on Sundays so is the perfect venue before or after a stroll around the historic building of Newent and Lake or longer walk to and from the Arboretum. We welcome cyclists and dog walkers that need refuelling.

4 Broad Street

The Crusty Loaf is an award-winning chain of artisan bakeries based in Newent, Coleford and Ross on Wye. With a small café in Newent it offers the fresh out of the oven experience of real local bread and other tasty pastries , sausage rolls and buns. The daily fresh cakes also taste amazing.

18 Church Street

Erol’s Courtyard Cafe is just a stone’s throw from St Mary’s Church and has a cosy courtyard area in The Shambles where you will find the Secret Gallery, The Museum of Board Games and other interesting independent gift shops.

A small and very welcoming café for those who like little fuss or simply in a rush and need a quick tasty bite to take-away or pick me up coffee. Our Lavazza coffees are tailored to your choice.

Recently opened in January 2024 we welcome local residents and visitors to try our special coffees and wholesome sandwiches, rolls and paninis.
